How the eBay UK fee is calculated

For a business seller, eBay adds the final value fee, the per-order fee and the regulatory operating fee, all on the total the buyer pays for the item and postage. VAT at 20% is then charged on the fees.

Private sellers keep the full listed price on domestic sales. Fees can still apply to listing upgrades, extra listings over the free allowance, and international sales.

Why a eBay UK fee hurts more on cheap items

Drag the price. The percentage part of the fee stays the same, but any fixed charge is spread over fewer dollars, so the share of the sale you lose climbs as the price falls.
