How the Whatnot fee is calculated
Commission is calculated on the item price only. Processing is calculated on everything the buyer pays: item, shipping and sales tax.
When one buyer wins several items in a show and checks out together, the $0.30 is charged once for that order.
Why a Whatnot fee hurts more on cheap items
Drag the price. The percentage part of the fee stays the same, but any fixed charge is spread over fewer dollars, so the share of the sale you lose climbs as the price falls.
On a $10.00 sale Whatnot takes $1.39, which is 13.9% of the money.
Ways to keep more on Whatnot
- $1 starts are expensive: the fixed $0.30 alone is 30% of a $1 sale.
- Check your category; coins and some trading-card categories have run reduced commission.
